The Human Condition

Funny how it’s never what you’re thinking,
Funny how you’re never who you are,
Funny how there’s prisons made of concepts,
Funny how a word can leave a scar,

Funny how insanity defines us,
Funny how we’re always sure we’re right,
Funny how we’re haunted by our feelings,
Funny how we’re always in a fight,

IF history was just another peasant,
Just bright enough to ring a dinner bell,
Just wise enough to sell a bag of feathers,
Then history would say we’ve married hell,

Funny how we’re always out of money,
Funny how there’s never enough pie,
Funny how there’s always milk and honey,
For those who stand there laughing as we die,

Funny how a thousand times means nothing,
When it comes to monsters selling us a king,
We talk as if we understand the fable,
We walk as if we’ve never learned a thing,

IF history was just another peasant,
Just bright enough to ring a dinner bell,
Just wise enough to sell a bag of feathers,
Then history would say we’ve married hell,

Funny how the truth is often painful,
And how naturally we live within our lies,
And how naturally we worship those who beat us,
And how hard it is to tell yourself goodbye,

Funny how we talk of Peace and Freedom,
As if we’re something other than a slave,
As if we can’t be fooled by light and shadows,
Funny how we’re still in “Plato’s Cave”.
