The Eupalinus Tunnel, located on the Greek island of Samos, is an ancient engineering marvel from the 6th century BC. Χ.
Commissioned by the tyrant Polycrates and designed by Eupalinus of Megara, this 1,036-meter-long tunnel served as a watering facility, bringing fresh water from a distant spring to the city of Pythagoras.
Remarkably, it was dug from both ends of a mountain and met right in the middle – an excellent feat given the tools and techniques of the time.
