Vain amateur models taking ‘sexy’ snaps of themselves in the mirror has become a cultural phenomenon.

These awkward examples showcase some of some of the world’s most embarrassing self-taken shots.

The pouting pictures and self-conscious poses reveal how not to take a flattering self-portrait.

Unusual baby snap: A man in sunglasses dresses his child in shades and a cute yellow hat – but perhaps a toilet wasn’t the most private location to take the picture

Revealing: This woman in a crop-top, left, and badly sunburned subject, right, show off a little too much

Sci-fi fantasy: A Star Wars fan shows off his body but cunningly keeps his identity a secret with a Stormtrooper helmet

Props: An American football fan uses a ball to hide his modesty, left, while mother is too busy taking snaps of herself to worry about her watching child

But these subjects appear to be quite happy for their ridiculous photos to be seen by an astonished public.

One picture shows a young man in sunglasses seductively pouring maple syrup over his naked torso.

Nudity is something of a theme, with other shots – rather lacking in glamour – showing people covering their modesty with just their hands, hair or a bizarre prop.

In one, an American football fan holds a ball over his private parts, another chooses a bonsai tree while in another a large man squeezes himself into a tiny mankini. A topless Star Wars fan even hides his identity under a Stormtrooper helmet.

The pictures have all been submitted to getoutofthemirror.com by users of the site and others were discovered on social media and dating sites.

Letting it all hang out: These women proudly flaunt their wobbly and bumpy bits

Others have made matters worse by including other people in their pictures, with one man’s mother visible in the mirror taking a picture of him flexing, and another dressing his baby in matching shades.

Plenty of photos taken in public toilets have accidentally literally caught people with their trousers down.

Some even proudly show off angry-looking sunburn and bottoms covered in cellulite.

The website reads: ‘The internet is filled with mirror pics, and they’re all ridiculous: people contorting their bodies into awkward poses that they think look flattering.

‘NEWS FLASH: TAKING A PICTURE IN A BATHROOM MIRROR DOES NOT MAKE YOU HOTTER. It makes you look like an idiot, and it screams “I don’t have any real friends who could take a picture of me.”

‘We’re going to post the stupidest mirror pics from the internet until people start realizing how dumb they are and stop taking them. Young, old. Fat, thin. Black, white. Hot or not. NO ONE IS SAFE.’
