Flood waters are expected to peak at Barmah on the Victoria-NSW border tomorrow night or early Thursday, but there are still concerns water is threatening properties.
Three large pumps positioned at Moira Lake Road, north of the township, should move water into the Murray River, while access to Barmah from the Victorian side may be cut off if the main Shepparton-Barmah Road, which has water over it, is closed.
State Emergency Service Shepparton deputy incident controller Michael Morley says as a last resort, parts of Moira Lake Road, which acts as a natural levee, will be removed to enable the water to flow into the river.
Mr Morley says they’re planning for the worst, but hoping for the best as at least three properties remain under threat.
Meanwhile, deputy Nationals leader and agriculture minister Peter Walsh says more than two thousand farmers are estimated to be affected by the floods across the region, and dairy farmers will be hit particularly hard.
