Transport chiefs have been condemned for splashing out £2.5million on taking all their 30,000 staff on a tour of the Olympic Park.

The head of the TaxPayers’ Alliance, Matthew Elliott, attacked the decision as ‘incredible’.

Staff employed by Transport for London will be given a guided tour of the park in East London as part of a training programme that will last six months.

They will also be given lectures on Tfl’s future plans, be shown videos about the games and receive an address from managing director Mike Brown.

The tours, which will also outline transport arrangements during the London Olympics, are being partly financed by the Olympic Delivery Authority.

Mr Elliott, chief executive of the TaxPayers’ Alliance, said: ‘It’s incredible that Tfl bosses think it’s right to spend millions in taxpayers’ money for staff to have a wander around the Olympic Park and watch videos promoting the games.

‘Spending on the Olympics has almost trebled since it was first announced. Hidden extras like this have all added to the cost to taxpayers.

‘Transport chiefs need to find more cost effective ways to prepare for the Olympics.’

But London transport commissioner Peter Hendy defended the huge expenditure.

He said: ‘Imagine how much it would cost me to hire a room for up to 200 people for three sessions a day for six months anywhere in London.

‘What we have actually got is the unused ticket hall for Stratford International Station.’  He added that it made economic sense for Tfl to use the facilities at the Olympic Park.

Speaking on the London radio station LBC, Mr Hendy said the training courses give the managing director, Mr Brown, the chance to speak to every single member of staff.

‘Anybody who runs a large customer service organisation needs the opportunity from time to time to speak directly to the people who work for them,’ he said.

‘Most of the money we are spending is actually going into the venue because you can’t get a venue that takes a couple of hundred people for three sessions a day for six months without paying some money for it,’ he said.

‘They are going to get a cup of tea and a biscuit, a tour of the Olympic Park in a bus and a really informative and interesting session about what is going on on the Underground, what is the future of their jobs and possibly the future of the contribution we make to the city.’

Giving the workers the opportunity to talk to the bosses! Informing them of the bosses’ plans! Making them feel part of the organisation! This is disgraceful!. They are mere WORKERS, whose place is working in a sweat shop for a tyrant boss. Give them regular public birchings – that will make them work harder.

It’s called staff relations. But then I suppose the “mushroom method” of management is so much preferable.

I’ve decided that my ‘Taxes’ went towards the wages of one hard working Nurse. Since I am not contributing a single penny towards this 2012 spectacle it is inappropriate for me to spout off about how the money should be spent. To be perfectly honest, the further away I can be from London the better. White City 1948, been there, done that and had no more than a grazed knee to show for it.

I genuinely believe there are people, especially on here, who want the Games to be a failure! Just so they can say I told you so!
Well I don’t, I want it to be a rip roaring success and something to be proud of. Wether you wanted it or not it’s here so let us show the World a great Olympics.
I don’t want the rest of the World looking us moaning Minnie’s.

why couldnt Peter Hendy make a video clip of his speech and download it to youtube and ask the members to watch it on there ,

HOW MUCH?!! These damn people really are taking us for a ride. Sick of it!

Is that why the fares went up? I suppose they’re going early because they suspect they’ll be on strike during the events.

Larry Ellison communicates with his staff around the world.
Tfl must own at least one computer that their MD could use and some ability to capture his words.
For a fraction of that money a company and I believe there is already an Interactive Display of the Olympic Buildings which are the responsibilty of Tfl.
The rest of the Country is groaning under the debt of the Olympics and we now a Political sponsorship wasting more because someone wants to stand on a Bandstand and “ego trip” with the Passengers paying … transport this “Orange” to New York and ask them when they forgot about Computers.

Unbelievable gross stupidity…………but what better can you expect, they are answerable to no-one.

Could only happen in England, eh. And we’re paying for it all, up here. And not a jot of benefit to anyone apart from LOndon. Says it all. You dare to acll us scroungers – hang your head in shame.
