A temporary hospital will be set up in the flood-affected town of Numurkah following the inundation of the north Victorian community’s hospital.
The centre will be erected in the hospital’s carpark and will comprise three air conditioned modular tents equipped with supplies, power and refrigeration for vaccines.
Victorian Health Minister David Davis said the temporary hospital, operational from 9am (AEDT) Monday, was a necessity after floodwaters hit Numurkah District Health Service, forcing the relocation of around 30 patients and aged care residents to other facilities across the region.
“The centre will be staffed and operated by Numurkah District Health Service with Ambulance Victoria providing a full-time Health Commander and is equipped to provide urgent care and stabilisation services,” Mr Davis said.
Water levels are receding slowly in the Broken Creek catchment, which breached its banks and spilled into townships across Victoria’s north in recent weeks.
