Homicide detectives say they have no idea how a burnt body came to be dumped in Geelong.
Teenagers riding dirt bikes made the discovery yesterday afternoon in parkland used as a motocross track, off Broderick Road in Corio.
Police say the body appears to have been burnt and possibly bound.
But they say they are unable to identify the body or determine the man’s age.
Detective Senior Sergeant Steve McIntyre says it is a puzzling case.
“We don’t know where this body has come from to be in this location,” he said.
“Whether this is a location they have brought it to hide it [is] hard to say at this point in time.”
He says there is evidence of fire where the body was discovered.
“It looks like the body has been burnt, possibly burnt in situ,” he said.
“There is a suggestion that the body may have been tied up with some form of ligature.
“At this point in time it’s too early to tell what that situation is.”
