Tbilisi honors Georgian Iranologist

Iranian Ambassador to Georgia Majid Saber, Iranian Cultural Attaché Ehsan Khazaei and a group of Georgian literati attended the ceremony held on May 31, 2012.

Zorzoliani is an expert on Shahnameh and its Georgian translations. She has served as the head of the Department of Persian Language and Literature of Tbilisi State University since 2006 and has compiled more than 40 articles on Persian literature.

A classic among epic Persian poetry, Shahnameh (the Book of Kings) recounts Iran’s mythical and historical past. It was written in Persian at a time when Arabic was the main scientific and literary language of Iran.

The romance of Zal and Rudaba, the Seven Stages (or Labors) of Rostam, the tales of Rostam and Sohrab, etc are among the most popular shahnameh stories.
