Taxi seized as police probe hit-run death

Police have seized a taxi they believe may have struck and fatally injured Sydney man Andrew Heffernan in north-west Sydney yesterday morning.

Andrew, 23, from Glenhaven was found with serious injuries having been struck by a vehicle on Old Castle Hill Road about 1am on Saturday, May 26.

Acting on information received by investigators, the taxi was located at an address in Glenwood this morning.

Police said it would now undergo fornesic examination.

In a statement, police said there were “strong links” between the incident and the vehicle seized.

The 39-year-old male owner of the taxi has been spoken to by police but has yet to provide a formal statement.

Mr Heffernan’s devstated father, Kym, yesterday fronted the media, pleading for help in finding out who killed his son.

“We just want to know what happened, we just want closure,” Mr Heffernan said.

“It’s like a parent’s worst nightmare.”

Mr Heffernan said his son’s career was on the rise and “he was in the prime of his life” at the time of his death, having been drinking with old friends at the nearby Hillside Tavern.

“His career was on the rise, he was in the prime of his life,” Mr Heffernan said.

“He’d just got the new job and he was excited about that. He’s got three younger brothers who idolise him. They thought he was the best thing ever.”

He was struck by a car sometime between 12.30am and 1am yesterday morning, outside Castle Towers.

Mr Heffernan and his family have been updated about today’s developments.
