Tajikistan’s parliament, government and people condemn sanctions against the Islamic Republic, Zuhurov said in a meeting with visiting Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi in Dushanbe on Friday.
He added that despite enemy plots against the Muslim people of Iran, the country is powerful and enjoys a special position in the region and the world.
The Tajik official said the two countries have signed more than 150 agreements and over 150 Iranian firms are conducting important projects in Tajikistan in the fields of transportation, development, gas pipeline, water and electricity transfer and trade.
Zuhurov described Iran as Tajikistan’s closest and most reliable strategic ally both in the region and the world after the country’s independence in 1991.
According to Salehi, the value of dealings between Iran and Tajikistan stands at about USD200 million at present.
Iranian experts are executing different projects in Tajikistan, including the Sang Toudeh II Hydroelectric Power Plant.
Iran has invested around USD180 million in the project, along with Tajikistan’s USD40-million investment, and is expected to carry out the management of the plant for 12 years. Tajikistan’s national power company will then take over from Iran.
The Sang Toudeh II will help Tajikistan in its industrial and agricultural sectors and in meeting its energy needs during the cold season.
Salehi arrived in Tajikistan on Wednesday night on an official invitation extended by his Tajik counterpart Hamrokhon Zarifi.
