Transit Crime Investigation Unit detectives are investigating a serious assault on a bus in Melbourne this morning which has left a woman in hospital.
It’s been reported a group of six or seven males and two females boarded the 667 NightRider bus bound for Frankston on Swanston Street, around 2.30am.
The bus was full and the group remained standing in the aisle.
It’s been reported the group was boisterous and noisy, knocking into each other and others on the bus.
A number of passengers, including a 26-year-old St Kilda woman, asked the bus driver to remove the passengers.
One of the females from the group approached the St Kilda woman and threw a drink in her face.
The woman stood up and was punched in the face by the female.
Others from the group got involved and the woman was dragged to the ground, punched and kicked to her body and head, rendering her unconscious.
The bus driver opened the bus door and the group ran from the bus along Swanston Street towards Flinders Street.
The victim was treated at the scene and conveyed to hospital for treatment where she is in a stable condition.
Detectives are continuing their investigation and will review CCTV.
The female who instigated the assault is perceived to be African in appearance, late teens or early twenties, tall, thin, with long straight hair that is dyed brown. She was wearing a tight fitted black and white dress with a pattern.
The others in the group are perceived to be of African appearance.
