Syrian candidates step up campaigning

Some 7,195 candidates, among them independent and opposition figures, are running for 250 parliamentary seats.

The candidates running on different platforms have made various promises to Syrians.

“My aims if I reach the parliament are supporting small and medium projects and enhancing the quality of Syrian products,” candidate Anas al-Jaza’eri told Press TV.

The ministry of interior has voiced complete readiness for the first multi-party elections under the new constitution approved by Syrians in a referendum in February.

Officials said that 12,152 voting centers have been set up across Syria.

The elections are regarded as a crucial part of President Bashar al-Assad’s reform program, aimed at ending the unrest in the country.
