Syria has previously blamed al-Qaeda for at least some attacks on its
territory and has vowed to respond with an iron fist.
Al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahri, in a video recording posted on the Internet
last month, urged Muslims around the region to back Syrian rebels in their
uprising against Assad’s regime.
Meanwhile, hundreds of pro-Assad demonstrators gathered in Qassa’ street in
Damascus, where one of the blasts took place, condemning the attacks.
