Deputy Chairman of Iran’s Joint Chiefs of Staff Brigadier General Massoud Jazayeri said in a Wednesday address that the Syrian government and people have succeeded in overcoming the turbulent period of foreign-backed armed insurgency.
Jazayeri said time is on the side of the resistance forces in the region, adding that the US and Europeans continue to struggle with persisting crises challenging their legitimacy as well as financial and economic affairs.
“The region’s resistance is not a matter that the Islamic Republic can be indifferent to and anyone who [carries out] mischievous [acts] against this red-line of the Islamic Revolution will be dealt with,” he said.
The Iranian commander also added that a US propaganda effort “that can be referred to as a great psychological operation” against resistance forces is currently in the works in Syria with the enemy attempting to portray that it has taken control of the country.
Jazayeri further asserted that according to clear and reliable intelligence, “the US and its allies did their utmost against Syria and failed to achieve desired outcomes.”
“The Syrian nation and government are certainly capable of standing up to bullying and coming out of this vicious battle [waged against the country by the West] victoriously.”
The unrest in Syria began in March 2011, with demonstrations held both in support and against President Bashar al-Assad’s government.
The West and foreign-sponsored Syrian opposition elements have accused the Syrian government of killing protesters, but Damascus blames “outlaws, saboteurs, and armed terrorist groups” for the unrest, insisting that it is being orchestrated from abroad.
