“The independence of Syria and supporting the [anti-Israeli] resistance comes at a high price and God willing, the Syrian government and nation will come out of the current ordeal more honored and powerful [than before],” he said in a meeting with his Syrian counterpart Walid al-Muallem in Tehran on Sunday.
The Iranian minister added that the relations between Iran and Syria are brotherly and cordial, noting that Tehran has always stood by Damascus and will continue to do so.
The two sides emphasized on the necessity of stopping foreign meddling, terrorist attacks, and bloodshed in Syria, stating that reforms introduced by Syrian President Bashar Assad were the best way to meet the people’s legitimate demands through dialogue, interaction and a Syrian-Syrian solution.
“The reforms should be given enough time to proceed and their results become manifest,” Salehi added.
Al-Muallem, for his part, noted that he carries the Syrian leader’s message of gratitude for Iran’s logical stance with regard to the Syrian government and nation.
“The people of Syria have a good understanding of conditions and are well aware of regional and extra-regional conspiracies which aim to deal blows to Syria,” he added.
Criticizing certain states which have called for foreign military intervention in Syria outside the framework of the United Nations, he warned that the Syrian government and people will give a crushing response to plans made by the Zionist regime of Israel and other enemies of Syria to interfere in his country’s affairs.
Muallem arrived in Iran’s capital, Tehran, on Sunday to hold talks with senior Iranian officials.
In addition to Iran’s Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi, he is also scheduled to meet with Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Saeed Jalili.
