“Some countries do not see security and stability in Syria in their favor and are, therefore, trying to foster instability and insecurity in this country,” Ramin Mehmanparast told reporters on Monday.
Therefore, he added, as soon as Mr. Annan takes a step to achieve common grounds for peace, bomb attacks happen in Syria which proves they were engineered, IRNA reported.
Annan’s six-point peace plan, which took effect in early April, calls for establishing a ceasefire between the government and the opposition, allowing humanitarian groups access to the population, releasing detainees and starting political dialogue.
Mehmanparast said the Islamic Republic supported Annan’s plan from the start because if the six-point plan is pursued, it can create a suitable atmosphere in Syria.
“Since this plan can lead to stability, it is not favored by certain political currents and countries and these political currents are trying to disturb the situation with the explosions that take place,” he noted.
Mehmanparast argued that all such acts of sabotage are rooted in increasing weakness of Israel, adding, “When superpowers feel Israel is becoming weak, they look for an escape route for this regime.”
The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman stated that the United States is trying to help a minority dominate the majority in Syria which is dictatorship and against democracy.
Syria has been experiencing unrest since mid-March 2011, including a series of bomb attacks which have targeted various Syrian cities over the past few weeks.
In the latest bomb attack, an explosive device was detonated by armed rebels on the main southern highway in Damascus in the early hours of Sunday, May 27, wounding at least two security personnel.
Earlier this month, 55 people were killed and about 400 others were injured in two bombings near a military intelligence building in Damascus.
Syria blames “outlaws, saboteurs, and armed terrorist groups” for the unrest and insists that it is being orchestrated from abroad.
