Sydney tattoo parlour hit by bullets

Premier Barry O’Farrell must address police shortages immediately, following the latest shooting involving a tattoo parlour in Sydney’s inner west, the NSW Opposition says.

Numerous bullet holes were found in the roller shutter of the Burwood tattoo shop on Friday morning, after passers-by noticed the damage.

NSW Opposition Leader John Robertson said he was frustrated that Mr O’Farrell had done nothing about police shortages, despite this being the 68th shooting since he became premier.

“Burwood Local Area Command is 13 officers under strength, which means there aren’t enough police on the ground to meet basic operational needs, let alone deal with shootings like this one,” Mr Robertson said in a statement.

“This is the second tattoo parlour to be sprayed with bullets this week, in a worrying sign that the gang warfare that reached fever pitch in January this year could once again be on the rise.”

The opposition leader said an innocent bystander will be killed if the shootings in Sydney continue.
