The exclusive Sydney nightspot The Ivy has been ordered to shut for three days as police investigate the alleged weekend bashing of a man by bouncers.
Police say the 29-year-old was one of several men thrown out of the George Street venue about 1:30am (AEST) on Sunday.
The men then allegedly returned to the bar and a fight broke out with bouncers.
Police say the man was separated from his friends, then held down and gagged while security guards punched and kicked him repeatedly.
He was then allegedly taken to the club’s basement security area, where the assault continued.
Two bouncers, aged 25 and 30, were arrested when officers arrived.
Police have also accused The Ivy’s management of trying to clean up the crime scene before it could be examined by a forensic team.
The nightspot, which is owned by millionaire entrepreneur Justin Hemmes, has been ordered to close its doors for 72 hours.
The order came into force at midnight today.
The victim is recovering in St Vincent’s Hospital with serious facial injuries.
The two bouncers have been charged with inflicting grievous bodily harm.
Police have asked for any witnesses who were at The Ivy or nearby around the time of the attack to contact The Rocks Police Station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
