Swedish town’s free land offer backfires after Polish influx

Nordmaling’s distant location, 365 miles by road north of Stockholm, also
makes for long and arduous winters.

Despite the language barrier, Sweden has long been a favourite destination for
the migrant Pole. The country took in thousands of Poles during martial law,
and along with Britain and Ireland it provided unrestricted access to its
labour market when Poland joined the EU in 2004.
