Swamp Drainage Update: Ex FCC Chairman Working AGAIN for Telecom Industry and Continuing to Promote Risky 5G and “Internet of Things” (IoT).

By B.N. Frank

Before being nominated and becoming FCC chairman in 2013, Tom Wheeler had a long history working for the Telecom Industry.

According to one 2017 article,

  1. He was a venture capitalist for many years in the cable and wireless.
  2. He was President of the National Cable & Telecommunications Association (NCTA).
  3. He was CEO of the Cellular Telecommunications & Internet Association (CTIA).
  4. In 1995, Cablevision magazine named Wheeler one of the 20 most influential individuals in its history.
  5. In 2003, he was inducted into the Wireless Hall of Fame because of his work promoting the wireless industry.
  6. In 2009, he was inducted into the Cable Television Hall of Fame because of his work promoting the growth and prosperity of the cable television industry.
  7. He is the only member of both halls of fame.

Even when Tom worked for the FCC, it seemed like he was working on behalf of the Telecom Industry instead of protecting the public.

For example, here is a video which includes Tom giving a 2016 press conference promoting 5G cell towers and technology.

For additional Tom Wheeler testimony on 5G, skip to the 2:40 minute mark of this video.

Tom clearly ignored The Precautionary Principle by supporting the deployment of 5G technology.

Tom resigned not long after President Trump was elected and quickly took another position within the Telecom Industry where he once again started promoting “The Internet of Things” (IoT).  5G technology is necessary for IoT.

For the last few years, IoT has been condemned by numerous security and tech experts because it has created dangerous, expensive and sometimes ridiculous security situations.  IoT also has an almost 75% failure rate.

Regardless, Tom said in February 2017:  The Internet of Things (IoT) is a key manifestation of Web 3.0,” explains Wheeler. “But we need to think bigger than some of our current IoT examples.”

Which examples, Tom?  You mean like the time IoT was hacked by a bored teenager?

According to Tom’s new employer in 2017:

His insight and vision for the future resonate powerfully with Actility’s mission of using Low Power Wide Area wireless networks

Decades of research has already proven that all wireless emitting sources cause biological and environmental harm.

More 5G/IoT wireless sources = more biological and environmental health risks in addition to IoT security risks.

When Trump was campaigning, he talked about “Draining the Swamp.” Part of this included creating regulations so that government employees couldn’t jump back and forth between government and industry jobs whenever they wanted.

These types of regulations would be helpful in regard to people like Tom Wheeler.

In September 2017, 180 scientists and doctors demanded a moratorium on the installation of 5G small cell tower infrastructure due to biological and environmental risks.

Tom doesn’t care.  Here’s a recent article written by him about 5G and IoT.  He doesn’t mention the moratorium or any of the other controversy including:

  1. All the recent media coverage regarding 5G which has included biological and environmental health risks from exposure.
  2. The state and federal 5G small cell tower bills being fought by various elected officials, organizations, and citizens.
  3. The February 9, 2018 Dr. Oz segment, “The Rise of 5G Cell Towers.”
  4. IoT’s high rate for failures, privacy violations, and cybersecurity risks – including how it has been endangering children.

Just today Marie-Helen Maras published article “4 Ways ‘Internet of Things’ Toys Endanger Children.”  According to Ms. Maras:

As someone with both academic and practical experience in security, law enforcement and applied technology, I know these fears are not hypothetical.

One risk not covered in her article:  no safe level of wireless WiFi radiation exposure from any source has been scientifically determined for children or pregnant women.  Documentary, Generation Zapped, can provide more details.

Recently Samsung’s 5G home router won FCC approval.  This means anyone who wants 5G and IoT will be able to put it inside their individual homes and businesses.

Tommy, can you hear me?  This router seems to eliminate the need to install small towers all over communities and in front of homes.

Cell towers lower property value.  Most people don’t want to live near them.

Over the last few months, the media coverage of the U.S. Opioid Crisis has vilified many influential Americans who led the country down this very dark path.  Telecom Industry inventors and investors have also been taking a beating for causing “Digital Addiction.”

Continuing to ignore The Precautionary Principle regarding 5G and IoT may eventually bite Tom in the ass.  In the meantime, though – this 5G/IoT and “Smart City” insanity is being promoted all over the country by various businesses, community leaders, and elected officials.
