The New South Wales Department of Primary Industries has confirmed a juvenile White Shark was responsible for the attack on a Central Coast surfer last week.

The 28 year old man was treated for cuts to his hand and arm after being bitten at North Avoca Beach last Tuesday evening.

Over the past few days, DPI staff have met the man and analysed the bite marks.

A Department spokeswoman says shark researchers have confirmed a two-point-two metre juvenile White Shark was responsible for the attack but added it was an isolated incident.

The Department of Primary Industries is reminding swimmers to follow some common sense tips to reduce their risk of shark encounters.

These include not being in the water around dawn or dusk.
