As his government prepares to deliver its budget on Tuesday, support for Victorian Premier Ted Baillieu has tumbled, according to a Newspoll in The Australian.
The poll shows Mr Baillieu’s satisfaction rating has weakened since since February from 41 percentage points to 36.
The number of voters dissatisfied with the way he is doing his job has jumped seven points to 45 while his Liberal Party primary vote has dropped five points to 37.
On a two party-preferred basis, the coalition he leads is slightly ahead 51 to 49.
The March-April Newspoll has also provided some rare positive news for the ALP, with the satisfaction rating for Labor leader Daniel Andrews climbing five points to 28, still eight points shy of the premier.
Mr Baillieu retains a comfortable lead as preferred premier – 46 to 23 – but it has narrowed by nine points since the last survey.
Deputy Premier Peter Ryan said the budget will be “a difficult one”.
“It’s important we maintain our triple AAA rating and we build our budget capacity,” he told reporters.
