However, Manhattan’s historic financial district is not expected to be fully
operational for until next month. Citigroup, one of the world’s largest
banks, has said its office on Wall Street will not be open for weeks.
Goldman Sachs, whose headquarters is also in an area hit by the flooding, is
working on getting its traders back to work.
In the northern half of Manhattan that still had power yesterday (WEDNESDAY),
banks were experiencing a post-Hurricane run. Rather than withdrawing cash,
though, New Yorkers were vying to use the electricity sockets often found in
the entrance of branches to charge their mobile phones and computers.
