A strike force has been established to investigate the slaying of three family members in Sydney’s southwest as police prepare to interview a man under guard in hospital.
Strike Force Elcho will examine the circumstances of the killings while forensic officers have removed for testing a knife and other items from the St Johns Park unit where the three bodies were found early on Sunday.
The bodies are thought to be of a 61-year-old woman, a 71-year-old man and a 42-year-old man, all relatives of a 44-year-old man arrested at the scene.
He was taken to hospital with stab wounds believed to have been self-inflicted.
A NSW police spokeswoman says officers are hoping to interview the man on Monday.
The bodies are yet to be formally identified.
The 000 call that sent police to the scene on Sunday was made by an unknown male.
