Strike force to investigate girl’s death

A POLICE strike force has been established to investigate the death of a three-year-old girl who was found hurt in a house on the central coast.

She was pronounced dead at hospital after she was found suffering from several injuries in the house in Watanobbi shortly before 4am yesterday.

A 27-year-old woman and 28-year-old man, reported to be the girl’s mother and her boyfriend, were assisting police with their inquiries.

A media report said two other children were at home at the time and they were now in the care of the Department of Community Services.

A Wyong councillor, Sue Wynn, said the community would be devastated.

”This is a terrible tragedy. The community will feel it very deeply,” she said.

Strike Force Maynard will investigate the girl’s death. A post-mortem examination of the body is expected today.

Also on the central coast, a toddler escaped serious injury after plunging four metres, head first, off a balcony.

The boy hit a fence before landing on soft grass when he toppled from the balcony at his Berkeley Vale home at lunch time yesterday. He was initially reported to be unconscious but was awake and crying when emergency services arrived at the house.

He suffered cuts and bruises and was in a stable condition after being flown to Westmead Children’s Hospital.
