Berlin, Jan 29, IRNA — German Foreign Ministry spokesman Martin Schaefer said that Foreign Minister Frank‑Walter Steinmeier’s upcoming visit to Tehran and Riyadh is aimed at advancement of Syria peace talks through finding a diplomatic solution and ending war in the country.
Talking to reporters Friday, he added there was no doubt that Iran and Saudi Arabia are the two countries with high influence among the Syrian conflicting parties.
He also called on President Bashar Assad supporters to urge the government to take necessary steps in line with forming a coalition government.
Schaefer added that Steinmeier will also discuss Iran-Germany bilateral ties during his upcoming visit to Tehran.
He also said that Steinmeier will have talks on Syrian crisis at the level of foreign ministers on the sidelines of Munich Security Conference slated for February 12-14.
