Australia’s Prime Minister Julia Gillard has met with Sri Lanka’s President Mahinda Rajapaksa ahead of the Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting in Perth.
Ms Gillard asked President Rajapaksa to address directly those accusations of human rights abuses that may have been committed during his country’s long-running civil war.
But the Sri Lankan president’s spokesman, Bandula Jayasekara, says Ms Gillard was also briefed on a report that deals with accusations of war crimes against Tamil Tigers.
