Spider-Man premiere: Andrew Garfield says Emma Stone is ‘very special’

Stone described her character as Peter Parker’s “first love”. She
said of working with Garfield: “We were allowed to improvise a lot. It
was wonderful. It was very, very special and we learned a lot.”

Director Marc Webb hailed the chemistry between Garfield and Stone as the “beating
heart” of the film.

He said: “That first romance is something we can all relate to and I
think that’s what makes the film so special.”

Telegraph chief Film Critic Robbie Collin, who attended the premiere, tweeted
via his @robbiereviews site: “It’s Twilight in spandex, and that’s
sincerely meant as a compliment,” adding in further tweets: “Looks
incredible, too – 3D deep and silky-smooth, used to sensational effect to
show off Manhattan and Andrew Garfield’s buttocks”; and “The Amazing
Spider-Man is Hollywood’s first superhero franchise aimed primarily at
teenage girls.”

Welsh actor Rhys Ifans attended the premiere with his girlfriend Anna Friel.

The Notting Hill star plays Curt Connors in the film, a scientist who becomes
mutant villain The Lizard.

Ifans said seeing himself as a giant lizard left him “totally freaked out”.

He added: “I’ve never seen a film in 3D before, from beginning to end, so
seeing yourself in 3D, 25 foot high, is spooky.”

In keeping with the modern red carpet tradition, scores of reality TV
‘celebrities’ attended the premiere, includingTOWIE stars Sam Faiers and
boyfriend Joey Essex and Lauren Pope and Lydia Bright.

Reviewer Boyd Hilton tweeted: “Enjoyed The Amazing Spider-Man. Stone
Garfield terrific. In fact whole cast great. Origins stuff a bit blah but
from then on it just works.”

The Amazing Spider-Man opens in cinemas on July 3.
