According to a statement by the Yemeni army, two bombers smashed their explosives-laden car into the camp in Bayda, 170 km southwest of the capital, Sana’a, on Saturday.
The bombers “who carried out the attack were killed as well as a Republican Guard,” a military official said.
Witnesses say that the three-storey building of the camp was completely destroyed.
The explosion was followed by an exchange of fire between gunmen and security forces.
The son of Yemen’s Ali Abdullah Saleh – who formally stepped down less than a week ago – is the head of Republican Guard units.
The explosion came days after a similar attack that left 26 soldiers dead, military sources said.
