We’ve heard of Lucy in the sky with diamonds, but this time it was definitely an emerald glitter coming from the heavens. The sky above Norway turned into a spectacular light show as the colorful Aurora Borealis, or Northern Lights, came out to play.
The display was all down to the biggest solar storm in more than six years, as the astonishing colors wowed even experienced stargazers.
This time, Ireland and the UK got a look-in too: unlike Scandinavia, these countries rarely get the chance to see the stunning light show.
The effect appears when a magnetic solar wind slams into the Earth’s magnetic field, exciting oxygen and nitrogen electrons.
