WASHINGTON D.C. (INTELLIHUB) — Marijuana was legalized in the district, to some extent, Thursday at 12:01 a.m. when a law was allowed to go into effect by the district’s mayor, Muriel Bowser, after Initiative 71 was approved by 7 out of 10 voters back in November.
Now within the district citizenry 21-years of age or older can legally possess up to 2 ounces of marijuana, grow up to 6 plants [3 mature], and use marijuana on private property in what some think will set precedence to legalize marijuana nationwide. The door has now been opened.
Despite threats by opponents the mayor intends to stay the course.
The new law has some, like myself, raising their eyebrows and chuckling as they toss around in their head, questioning: Which politicians on Capitol Hill will now be stoned at work? And: Would this perhaps fix Washington?
On a side note, private use of marijuana was legalized in the State of Alaska Tuesday, in what pardon the pun: will be a big hit.
