TCP : President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi will meet with his Palestinian counterpart Mahmoud Abbas in Cairo Monday to discuss the latest developments of the Palestinian-Israeli issue, Palestine’s ambassador to Cairo Gamal al-Shobaky announced Tuesday.
Both leaders will tackle the international efforts of reviving the stalled peace talks with Israel, Shobaky added in remarks to Wafa news agency.
The negotiations were suspended after President Abbas announced a unity government to include Fatah and Hamas representatives in 2014; this was rejected by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Abbas will arrive in Cairo Sunday for a two-day visit during which he will meet with Arab League Secretary General Nabil al-Araby and Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, Shobaky continued.
In November 2015, Abbas met with Sisi to discuss the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, after confrontations broke out between the Palestinians of the West Bank and Gaza Strip and the Israeli troops in early October, leaving more than 30 Palestinians and seven Israelis dead. The confrontation erupted after Israeli incursions into the Nobel Sanctuary and mutual stabbing attacks between both sides.
