She, like many of the women involved in the scandal, was living in an upmarket
housing development in Milan and was allegedly having her rent paid by the
prime minister.
She also asked him to secure her more exposure on a popular TV show, Colorado
Cafe, known for its scantily-clad dancers and cabaret routines, and for a
part on another show, Bagaglino.
In the intercepted phone call, Mr Berlusconi apparently agreed to help her,
then turned the conversation to a party due to be held that night at his
mansion outside Milan.
“This evening you’ll put on a dance, right?” he asked, according to
transcripts of the recording published by La Repubblica newspaper.
Another showgirl, Barbara Faggioli, was recorded expressing hope that she
could help out her parents, who were 300,000 euros in debt.
Mr Berlusconi has repeatedly claimed that the parties at his mansion were “elegant
dinners”, although he conceded last week that the young women he
invited sometimes put on what he called “burlesque contests” in
which they dressed up in police outfits.
He denies paying for sex with the teenage dancer, Moroccan-born Karima El
Mahroug, better known by her stage name of Ruby the Heart Stealer.
She also denies going to bed with him although in tapes released earlier this
week she said he was prepared to pay her five million euros in return for
her silence.
The “Rubygate” affair, as it has been dubbed by the Italian press,
contributed to Mr Berlusconi having to resign his position in November.
He was replaced by a government of technocrats led by Mario Monti, a former
European Commissioner.
