Sica brainwashed kids, court told

Max Sica had special powers he used to brainwash three siblings before he murdered them, a court has been told.

Sica has pleaded not guilty to murdering 24-year-old Neelma and her younger brother Kunal, 18, and sister Sidhi, 12.

Their bodies were found in the ensuite spa bath of their home in the outer Brisbane suburb of Bridgeman Downs on April 22, 2003.

Giving evidence in the Supreme Court in Brisbane on Monday, the siblings’ father, Vijay Singh, said Sica was a “damned criminal” who regularly tried to manipulate his family.

He said Sica brainwashed Neelma, encouraging her to lie to her family about living with him when she returned from a job in Dubai.

Mr Singh also said Sica influenced Sidhi into telling school authorities she had been abused by her father, which he strenuously denied ever happened.

“It’s all been influenced by Max Sica,” he said.

“(Sidhi) told me that he’s the man who asked her to go to tell the school that I touched her.

“He is the man who brainwashed my daughter.”

Defence barrister Sam Di Carlo asked Mr Singh if his client had any “special powers” that helped him brainwash his family.

“Yes, he tried to show that he was very goody-goody to my family,” Mr Singh said, agreeing that Sica took the bins out and drove members of the family to the shops.

“So the fact that he behaved in a goody-goody way to your family by helping them equated to brainwashing them,” Mr Di Carlo asked.

“It was always manipulating, brainwashing my children… It wasn’t to protect them,” Mr Singh said.

The trial continues.
