Shoplifting gang selling designer clothes

Police are closing in on a gang that’s been selling shoplifted designer clothes from an apartment in Sydney’s inner west, after seizing a “mind-boggling” $500,000 of high-end apparel.

Officers unearthed the treasure trove of exclusive labels during a raid on a Moore Street apartment at Leichhardt earlier this year.

“We are dealing with an extremely organised and well established criminal group,” said local area crime manager, Detective Inspector Paul Pisanos.

“The size of the stash uncovered by police during the raid in March was mind-boggling.”

Thousands of items of men’s and women’s clothing from Hugo Boss, Armani, Herringbone, Ermenegildo Zegna, Ralph Lauren, Versace, Giorgio Cavalli, Alannah Hill, Laura Ashley and Veronika Maine were seized on March 15.

The goods have been valued at more than $500,000, police say.

They believe members of a well-organised criminal gang shoplifted the clothing from Sydney stores over a number of years.

“We believe they were then on-selling the stolen goods from the Leichhardt unit,” Insp Pisanos said.

“We are very keen to hear from anyone who might have information about the theft of designer apparel from stores across Sydney,” Insp Pisanos said on Sunday.

The detective urged anyone who might know the identity or whereabouts of members of the shoplifting gang to contact police.
