Shell’s Arctic Oil Rigs to Get 24/7 Federal Inspectors

Cold comfort no doubt, considering the utter lack of technology to clean up a spill in icy waters: SFGate reports that federal inspectors will be on Shell’s Arctic oil rigs around the clock.

Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement director James Watson:

BSEE will diligently review and monitor Shell’s proposed activities at each stage to ensure they remain compliant with federal regulations and are performed in a safe manner.
