Presidential Political and Media advisor, Dr.Bouthaina Shaaban dismissed statements attributed to her by the London-based al-Hayat newspaper which purported it quoted from a Facebook page carrying her name.
In a phone call with al-Maydeen TV channel Friday, Shaaban said that she has no Facebook page and has nothing to do with anything that was written on the page, calling for shutting down the page.
Shaaban said it is a matter of regret that media outlets are acting irresponsibly, saying she finds it very strange that al-Hayat would have quoted such a statement from a Facebook page without verifying it.
“The publishing of such statements is intended to create confusion…this page is distorting facts and we will find out who is in charge of the page and why he created it,” Shaaban said.
Shaaban said that the page was created in bad faith. “It is immoral that anyone would create a page using someone else’s name. It is unethical, unprofessional and unacceptable,” she added.
The presidential advisor said the statements attributed to her are nothing but “fishing in troubled water” by sides who seek to muddy the waters and want the relations strained.
Commenting on statements by the Doha Coalition member, Kamal al-Labwani, who admitted that the Coalition has mutual interests with Israel, Shaaban said “they came as no surprise to me, because what is going on in Syria is coordinated, planned and carried out by Israel’s tools.”
Al-Hayat newspaper published Friday statements it claimed quoted from a Facebook page carrying Shaaban’s name, in which Shaaban criticizes friendly media outlets.
