Convicted sex killer Trent Jennings, who last year absconded from a psychiatric hospital, is facing charges of possessing child abuse material, a Sydney court has been told.
Jennings, 27, spent five days on the run after failing to return from day leave in December.
He was found sleeping in a stolen car in Byron Bay in northern NSW on January 4.
He had been on the run from a secure psychiatric hospital in Morisset, south of Newcastle, where he was being detained for killing his gay lover Giuseppe Vitale during a drug-fuelled sex romp in 2003.
In Sydney’s Central Local Court on Tuesday, Jennings pleaded guilty via videolink to car theft, stealing from a dwelling and dishonestly obtaining financial advantage.
The charges relate to an incident that occurred on December 29 while Jennings was on day leave, allegedly involving a man he met on the internet.
He will be sentenced on August 3.
Jennings also pleaded not guilty to three charges of possessing child abuse material, which will be mentioned in Central Local Court on August 7.
In 2005, Jennings was committed to the Morisset Psychiatric Hospital near Newcastle after killing his lover.
