Almost 11,000 homes are without power after severe thunderstorms battered southeast Queensland, with more storms expected in parts of central Queensland.
Damaging winds, very heavy rainfall, flash flooding and large hailstones are predicted by the Bureau of Meteorology for the Wide Bay, Burnett, Darling Downs and Granite Belt areas in the coming hours with Dalby, Bundaberg and Hervey Bay waters potentially affected.
Most of the power outages in the southeast are at Caboolture and Redcliffe, the Lockyer Valley, Brisbane’s east and bayside, and the Gold Coast.
Authorities say storm damage has been minimal, with 22 calls made to the State Emergency Service for leaking roofs.
“There’s been no homes inundated or flooding at properties,” a Department of Community Safety spokeswoman said.
Some roads were closed at Toowoomba after local flooding but the water has now receded, police say.
An Ergon Energy spokesman said up to 600 homes around Proston, in the state’s south, are without power.
Emergency Management Queensland (EMQ) is advising residents in areas where storms are predicted to move their cars under cover or away from trees, secure loose outdoor items, shelter and secure animals, and avoid driving or walking through floodwaters.
EMQ says residents should listen to their local radio for further advice.
