Seventeen killed in Pakistan clashes

In North Waziristan agency, armed militants attacked a security forces convoy in Datta Khel on Friday, killing seven soldiers and injuring two others.

The government forces returned fire, which left nine militants dead and injured several others.

The injured troops were transferred to a local hospital as security forces launched search operation in the area to arrest the assailants.

In a separate operation, Pakistani forces killed a senior commander of militant Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in Ali Khel area in Upper Orakzai agency.

Forces have also recovered weapons and arms from the hideout of the militant leader, identified as Gul Wali Khan.

The Pakistani military has launched a series of offensives against pro-Taliban militants, including the TTP, in the country’s semiautonomous tribal region over the past few years.

Despite the Pakistani government’s operations, the TTP and its associated groups remain holed up across various parts of the country, where they carry out their terrorists attacks.

Over 35,000 Pakistanis have lost their lives in bombings and other militant attacks since 2001, when Islamabad entered into an alliance with the US in Washington’s so-called ‘war on terror.
