The Seven Network is defending its decision to screen a documentary both about and funded by fast food giant McDonald’s.
The documentary, McDonald’s Gets Grilled, will air in the prime 9.30pm (AEST) slot on Monday, according to News Ltd.
A Seven spokesman has told The Sunday Telegraph the network makes it “very clear” the documentary is self-funded by showing a billboard at the start of the program.
“The views represented are not necessarily the views of Seven,” the spokesman says.
He says the documentary is entertaining.
“It’s an interesting contribution to current public discussion around food and nutrition and follows in the footsteps of other programs like Super Size Me and Fast Food Nation.
“There is plenty of negative as well as positive information in the program. We have no reason to think the information in the program is other than accurate,” the spokesman says.
The spokesman also denied there was a link between the screening of the film and the fact McDonald’s was a major sponsor of the hit show My Kitchen Rules.
MKR viewers were subject to many McDonald’s ads throughout the reality cooking show that aired four nights a week.
