Senate proposes almost $700 billion for the Pentagon while millions of Americans remain unemployed amid the pandemic

While many Americans are living in economic uncertainty, are unemployed by the millions, and many facing evictions, one would hope another stimulus check would be discussed in the Senate.

Instead, however, the Senate Appropriations Committee has proposed a $696 billion budget for the Pentagon.

According to True Activist, it was reported that the fiscal spending bill for the Pentagon for  2021 was released recently along with 11 other appropriation bills. Both House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell agreed they wanted to pass an omnibus spending bill and most likely will agree on the military budget. Democrats and Republicans seem to agree to vote in favor of military spending when the opportunity arises.

With the current unemployment rate reaching roughly 6.8 million and nearly 8 million Americans facing eviction, the government should be focusing on its citizens and not a defense budget.
