Police have given up the search for a 61-year-old man missing off the north coast of the Northern Territory since Tuesday.
Bruce Edwards hasn’t been seen since his boat set-off from the yacht club at Gove, east of Darwin, about 7.30am (AEST) on June 12.
His boat was found, abandoned and damaged, by another vessel about 35km from Gove the following day.
It had a damaged hull and was taking on water.
Superintendent Michael White said local emergency services and community members had conducted four days of extensive air, land and water searches until it was determined the search would be suspended on Saturday afternoon.
“It’s always a difficult decision to suspend a search, but it’s become clear there is little chance of the man being located with the current conditions,” Supt White said.
