A search for two mates feared drowned on the NSW Central Coast will resume at daybreak today.
Trey Adamson and Ben Winn, aged 18 and 20, have been missing since Sunday morning off Ghosties Beach, where the body of Mr Adamson’s girlfriend, 18-year-old Niranda Blair, was found washed up about 9.30am (AEST).
It’s believed the trio had been fishing and surfing in the Flat Rock area, near Moonee Beach, before the Ms Blair’s body was discovered.
Ms Blair and Mr Adamson had been dating for two years and Mr Winn and Mr Adamson had been friends for 15 years.
The trio fished together regularly but it is believed the rock ledge at Flat Rock was a new spot for them.
Mr Adamson’s grandmother Tracey was very emotional at the scene of the rescue effort yesterday.
“My grandson Trei and his mate Ben were still missing, they’re too really good boys. They’re so good,” she told Nine News.
“She a was a gorgeous girl.”
Volunteer lifesavers and police began searching the area after fishing equipment belonging to the group was found at nearby Moonee Beach by a member of the public at about 6.30am.
Lifesavers are refusing to give up hope that the men could be found alive, saying it’s possible they could be safe in nearby caves.
“There’s some hope they washed up on the caves and they’re still there, but the size of the swells makes that unlikely,” director of Surf Life Saving Central Coast, Brett Beswick, told AAP.
