Scores of Afghan policemen poisoned

Afghan officials say the incident took place in a police academy in Lashkargah city early Monday.

Apparently, the police officers felt headaches nauseous after eating breakfast. An investigation has been launched into the incident.

Helmand governor spokesman Davood Ahmadi also said the poisoned officers have been taken to a military hospital for treatment.

One of the officers was in critical condition but the others were recovering, Ahmadi added.

The incident is considered the latest in similar poisoning incidents in the war-torn country.

Several cases of poisoning with toxic gas have been reported over the past two months.

On Saturday, at least 116 school students, mostly girls, were poisoned at the Hazrat Imam Zada Yahya high school in the northern province of Sar-e-Pol.

The girls at the school showed symptoms of exposure to toxic gas, including headache and nausea.

President Hamid Karzai has blamed the enemies of Afghanistan for the instances of poisoning.
