An elderly man has allegedly been found with more than 300 photos of young boys after being arrested for stalking a Manly schoolboy.
The 76-year-old man, from Ryde, approached a boy, 14, last week while he was waiting for his school bus near the Manly Ferry Wharf.
The man allegedly spoke with the boy and showed him a photo he had taken of him without his knowledge.
The boy recognised him as someone who had approached him at his school about a month ago, and told his teachers.
The man was arrested yesterday near the Manly Corso.
Detective Inspector Luke Arthurs, the crime manager at Manly Police, said when the man was arrested, he was carrying two cameras, each with “hundreds” more images of boys.
“There were a couple of repeat pictures of boys – either in Speedos or boardshorts on the beach, in school uniforms, or in casual clothes,” Detective Arthurs said.
“It will be difficult to identify individual boys, but we can at least identify the schools they attend and we will be in touch with those schools.”
Detective Arthurs said that the boy was the first to make a complaint against this man.
In addition to the hundreds of images of boys aged between 10 and 15, police also claim they found a digital camera and VHS tapes in his Beazley Street apartment.
The man was charged with stalking and intimidation and will appear at Manly Local Court on October 19.
