Saudi prince in Islamabad for talks

Saudi Arabia’s deputy prime minister and defense minister has traveled to Pakistan to hold talks on bilateral and regional issues.

Crown Prince Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, who holds both key positions in the kingdom, was welcomed at a military airbase near Islamabad Saturday evening by Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Xinhua reported on Sunday.

According to the Pakistani Foreign Ministry, the Saudi prince and senior government official is leading a high-level delegation that includes Minister of Economy and Planning Mohammed bin Sulaiman Al Jasser, Minister of Commerce and Industry Tawfiq bin Fawzan Al Rabiah, and Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Nizar Bin Obaid Madani.

The delegation from Riyadh is also accompanied by Saudi businessmen who are due to meet and hold talks with their Pakistani counterparts.

During his state visit, the Pakistani Foreign Ministry added, the Saudi crown prince is due to also hold talks with Pakistan President Mamnoon Hussain over bilateral ties as well as international concern of mutual interest.

“The Crown Prince’s visit is of special significance since it is his first visit to Pakistan after assuming this position,” said a Pakistani Foreign Ministry statement cited in the report.

“This visit will give a new impetus to the existing fraternal bonds between the two countries and provide a good opportunity to explore ways and means for further strengthening cooperation in diverse areas of mutual interest particularly in expanding and enhancing investment and trade,” the statement added.

The two sides will also discuss ways to expand the export of Pakistani manpower to Saudi Arabia and to facilitate the huge Pakistani labor community residing in Saudi Arabia, which reportedly imports most of its labor and expert workforce.

There is a large Pakistani community of approximately 1.5 million in Saudi Arabia who contribute to Pakistan’s economy through annual remittances of over four billion US dollars, the report adds.
