Saudi forces crack down on students

Saudi security forces attacked the peaceful female students protesting at Jubail industrial college in the capital Riyadh, reportedly arresting tens of students.

Protesters demand sweeping changes across the monarchy, including an end to the ruling regime.

Demonstrators also said they had come out to voice their support with the nearly 1,000 female students of the King Khalid University in Abha, Asir Province, who on March 7 demanded a better educational system and were beaten and attacked by female students.

One epileptic student protester died due to head injury she sustained in the attack, at least 50 others were injured and one of the protesters suffered a miscarriage after security forces attacked the student rally.

The brutal crackdown led to the resignation of nearly 30 university professors and caused outrage across the country, prompting protests in several areas, including the Saudi capital of Riyadh.

The protesters demanded the killers, above all Interior Minister Nayef bin Abdul Aziz, be held accountable for the incident.

Several people have been killed and many more have been injured or detained since anti-regime protests erupted in the kingdom in March 2011.
