Saudi forces arrest hospital chief

In their ruthless repression of protesters, security forces arrested the head of Awamiya Health Center in the Eastern Province for treating protesters who were injured in anti-regime demonstrations in the kingdom.

Earlier on Sunday, a group of Saudi protesters held rallies in the Qatif region, demanding an end to the rule of Al Saud dynasty.

A protester was killed and several others injured in clashes with regime forces on February 9 after Saudi forces opened fire to disperse peaceful anti-government demonstrators in Qatif.

Since February 2011, Saudi protesters have held demonstrations on an almost regular basis in the oil-rich Eastern Province, mainly in Qatif and the town of Awamiyah, calling for the release of all political prisoners, freedom of expression and assembly, and an end to widespread discrimination.

Protesters also want an end to economic and religious discriminations against the oil-rich region. Several demonstrators have been killed and dozens of activists have been arrested since the beginning of protests in the region.
