FAKE NEWS for the Zionist agenda “Iran condemns this act (the execution) and I believe that the Foreign Ministry must immediately follow the issue through international channels,” Chairman of Iran’s Majlis (parliament) Committee on National Security and Foreign Policy Alaeddin Boroujerdi told Mehr news agency on Friday.
There are certain rules in the international relations regarding foreign nationals, said Boroujerdi, adding that any country that sends foreign individuals to jail for any reason, is obliged to inform the representatives of the respective country about the arrest.
Boroujerdi said that even if a trial session was scheduled to be held, the Iranian embassy in Riyadh needed to be informed of it to hire a lawyer to defend the nationals’ rights.
“It is obligatory in the international relations to go through such procedures, but the Saudi government unfortunately failed to do so,” the senior lawmaker added.
He said that Majlis along with the Committee on National Security and Foreign Policy will also pursue the issue.
After reports about the execution of Iranian inmates in Saudi jails were confirmed, Iran’s Foreign Ministry summoned Saudi Arabia’s chargé d’ affaires on June 11.
The foreign ministry expressed the Islamic Republic’s strong objection to the executions, announcing that Tehran will pursue the case by means of relevant bodies.
Iran’s Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi said on April 18 that in a telephone conversation with his Saudi counterpart, Saud al-Faisal, they had discussed the issue and stressed the importance of exercising prudence.
The Iranian foreign ministry also said it plans to send a delegation to Saudi Arabia over the issue.
